The End is Near: Ch 2

Howdy,

So, since today is my birthday...I thought 'hey, why not a treat to all my awesome readers?' so...instead of updating one of my old fanfics, which I'm still working out the kinks of...I thought I should post the second chapter to my newest fanfic. I hope you enjoy it!

===================

Ch 2

Her day had finally ended. She never really fancied Mondays, because she had to do extra clinic hours on top of her own rounds, but, it’s not like she had a choice. But today was awfully long, she had to perform an aortic valve bypass in the morning, by mid-day one of her previous patients had come in with a minor heart attack, and by the time evening had come around she was swamped with the work from the clinic. Usually she would have a drink or two by herself before going home, but she was far too tired to do so.

She left the hospital, got into her car and drove home. By the time she got home it was already around 7pm, which was just in time for dinner.

Linda: Mom, dad, I’m home

Mom: And just in time too...I made a steamed grouper today, your favourite

Linda: Thanks mom

Mom: You look terrible, go wash up first

Linda: Ok

She walked towards her room and noticed her dad coming out of the bathroom

Dad: Tough day?

Linda: Sort of...

Dad: Well...I did warn you

Linda: Just because it’s tough doesn’t mean I’m going to quite dad

Dad: Fine...suffer...you look awful by the way

She tried her best to squeeze a smile: Thanks dad, really appreciate your support

She walked straight into her room to wash up

~ Living room~

Dad: Look at that attitude, no wonder she’s still single, what man in his right mind would want to marry her

Mom: Come on Damian, don’t be so hard on her...she’s young and ambitious...give her some time

Damian: I could give her some time, but you should know that time is a women’s enemy Michelle...

Michelle: Don’t worry...she’ll be fine. She’ll find a wonderful husband soon and next thing you know you’ll miss having her around

Damian: I barely see her to begin with, and every time we talk I feel as though we’re at war...why can’t she be like Queenie? Get a good education, become a nurse, get married to a doctor. But no, this one, this one just decides that she’s too good to be a nurse, so she goes to med school instead

Michelle laughed: Don’t worry honey...shh...she’s coming out

Linda: Are we waiting for sister and brother-in-law

Michelle: They said they won’t be home so early, something about a concert

~After dinner~

Queenie: Mom, dad, we’re home

Wayne: And we bought cake

Michelle: Great, let me get some plates

Linda: You look great today sis, how was the concert?

Queenie: Amazing...you should really go some time, you’d love it...you always had a liking for classical music

Linda: Maybe, depends on how my schedule looks like

Wayne: Oh, speaking of your schedule...are you free next month, I think it’s the 27th of next month...

Linda: What is?

Wayne: It’s a little charity event, in celebration of the success of our public service project for better flu prevention, the keynote speaker is a friend of mine from the states, he was looking for a date so...

Linda: You’re trying to set me up?

Queenie: It was really my idea, and besides you’ll fit in fine with the people there...nurses, doctors, researchers...

Linda: I don’t know...we’ll have to wait and see...

Wayne: Come on, it’ll be fun...and informative

Queenie: Come on...we’ll be there too just in case you don’t like talking to Wayne’s friend...free food and drinks...and...we’ll be in charge of your transportation. Ok?

Linda smiled: Fine...I’ll go

Wayne: Great, then I’ll let him know that he has a date for the event...

Damian: Who would’ve thought the brother-in-law would have to act as a matchmaker in this day and age

Queenie: Daddy...

Damian: What? Did I say something wrong?

Linda: Dad’s right...who knew that guys in this day and age could be intimidated by women with looks and brains

Damian: Oh, did you hear that honey, we somehow raised and egotist, so proud, so very proud

Linda: Sis, can you write down today’s date and the time

Queenie: Why?

Linda: Well, it’s the first compliment of the day I got from dad

Queenie laughed

Michelle: Knock it off and have some cake

Linda: Thanks mom, but I think I’ll eat it in my room...I still have a case history to go over

Damian: Of course, because blood and open heart surgeries make the cake taste so much better

Linda looked at her dad: You really do understand me, dad

~ Later that night, in Michelle and Damian’s bedroom~

Michelle putting on her face mask: Why are you so hard on our little girl?

Damian: I’m not hard on her, and she’s not little

Michelle: Does it ever cross your mind that she’s just following in your footsteps?

Damian: I never asked her to, I just want her to live a good life and be happy

Michelle smiled: Maybe following in your footsteps makes her happy?

Damian: How can it make her happy? Following in my footstep, climbing up the hierarchy of the hospital won’t get her anything in the end. If she was a man, the nurses at the hospital would be all over her, in admiration of her ambition and dedication...but as a woman...

Michelle: You’re afraid she’ll scare away all of her future pursuers?

Damian: She already chased away Kenneth, and he was a good doctor...

Michelle: But he wasn’t a good boyfriend...you know that...you heard her cry...

Damian: I know, I know...it’s just that I really hoped that I would get to drink that tea...and now...she’s nearing 30...

Michelle: Don’t worry honey, our daughter might be picky, but she’ll find the one who’ll make her happy...like how we found each other...

Damian: Hopefully...

Tadaaaa!!!! Another character is introduced...I'm really looking forward to updating this fanfic...it's actually quite fun. Anywho...I hope you're not disappointed or another with the introduction of this character cause...I found her to suit the role well. To be honest, I dislike weak and timid characters that TVB always have...so...most of my characters, especially female characters are rather strong in their character.

Anywho, enough of me rambling...please leave me a comment or two on this fanfic, or birthday wishes lol, and...I'll be back soon...(promise)

Randomness...OUT!!!

I kind of expected Linda to be the female lead after reading a couple of your fanfics in the last couple of years and especially when L'Escargot has ended without a happy ending.
Anyway, until now, the fanfic is quite relaxing, wonder if you will keep that paced and when will Ron and Linda meet... Will it be at that charity ball....

Lastly, I wish a Happy Birthday. Hope that you will receive good marks in the last years of uni and have the future the way you wanted. Happy Birthday
