A Series of Unexpected Events: Chapter 4

I did it!!! I updated like I said I would...this chapter is a pretty entertaining one for sure...and for everyone who misses reading about RL...well here you go.

It Starts Here

Character: Leila Tong

To the world I’m just a crazy money hungry manager who continuously pushes the only author under her contract to continuously produce wonderful best sellers. But, the world doesn’t see who the real Leila Tong is...the world just sees what the world wants to see. And to be very honest, the world only seems to want to see the worse in people.

I may not be as gentle and caring as any other woman my age, but there are certain things I do care about in life, and it’s not just money. I too want to start a family some day, a loving husband, kids maybe even a dog running around the house...but I’m not there yet, I’m not at that point in my life where I’m comfortable enough to settle down. I’m just not ready to commit...but in fact I am committing. I’m committing myself to a relationship that could end up nowhere...well...actually it’s more of a very close friendship.

Sometimes I see him sit in his office staring blankly at his laptop as though transfixed by the tiny pixels and then at times I see him walking back and forth aimlessly as though he’s trying to figure something out. Most of the time, I haven’t a clue what he’s up to...or what goes on in that creative brain of his...but whatever does go on in there is beautiful and sometimes I secretly wish that I could enter his world. A world filled with colour, filled with romance and delicate heart-felt words that a girl or a woman only wishes to hear from her beloved.

Sometimes I find myself infatuated by his charm; by the way he can use the pen or in this modern age his laptop to create such beauty. At times I think I’ve fallen in love with the man that I’ve known for almost a decade...but have I really fallen for him?

The world sees me as his crazy money hungry manager...those in the business sees me as his ‘second wife’ and he sees me as his junior from university. Our friendship sprung from nothingness and it has grown into something so full of life. I was there when he met his wife, I was there when they got married...and sadly I was also by his side when his wife had passed away. I don’t think I could ever replace her nor have I ever thought of doing such a silly thing...but...I’ve been there for him through the past years. I’ve helped him get back onto his feet and look at life the way he always did...the way he did before she left him.

Being a well-known author of romantic novels seems to give him the upper hand with the ladies...and being his manager includes getting him away from the majority of those women. Because I end up spending so much of my time with him I end up having my pursuers think that there’s something going on between the two of us...

But enough about him, I think that I’ll find my Mr. Right someday, maybe not now, maybe not even sometime in the near future...but I’ll find him, or he’ll find me. But, what if...he is my Mr. Right? Nah, that’s a silly thought...

Ron: What do you think of this opening for my main character?

Leila: Read it to me

Ron clears his throat: I’ve been in love and out of love...but the worst feeling of all is losing that bittersweet taste of love itself...so, what do you think?

Leila: Too typical, corny even...

Ron: Fine...I’ll delete it then...and I guess I’ll start all over again

Leila: You’re telling me you spent an hour coming up with that?

Ron: What? Are you saying that my writing sucks?

Leila: No...I’m just curious as to why it took you so long to write something that is so simple

Ron: Well now it’s gone...and I think I lost all of my inspiration to continue writing today

Leila: Fine, then just keep what you had and continue from there

Ron: No

Leila: No?

Ron: I already deleted it

Leila: Write it again

Ron: Don’t want to

Leila: You don’t want to? Why are you being so childish?

Ron: Why are you acting like my mother for?

Leila: Your mother? I haven’t seen aunty in a while now, how’s she doing?

Ron: Pretty well...last I checked she was on a cruise ship...

Leila: Is she with her new boyfriend, James or something?

Ron: Nope, I think it’s Henry now...or someone...

The two of them looked at each other and then laughter filled the room...everyone in the business knew that they were a very compatible pair, equally versed and random.  A match made in heaven even, and some wondered why they haven’t gotten together yet...but some could easily say they’re timing was way off...

Ron: Oh...how about I write a story about this young woman trying to become an actress and doing whatever she had to, to get certain roles...

Leila: Oh no you’re not...

Ron: Why not Leila? Does it sound too familiar to you?

Leila: Hey, I was an aspiring actress during my second year in university

~Flashback~

Ron passing by the cafeteria in morning to grab a coffee found Leila sitting there eating away

Ron: A parfait for breakfast? That’s a pretty healthy choice there

Leila eating: not...parfait

Ron: Not a parfait?

Leila speaking with a mouthful: An English Trifle

Ron: For breakfast?

Leila nodded

Ron: You’re crazy...wait...are you going through a horrible break-up right?

Leila shook her head

Ron: Your dog died?

Leila continued shaking her head

Ron: No...it can’t be...you’re pregnant?

Leila: Are you out of your mind (she yelled, and then in a whispering tone) I’m still a virgin

Ron: Then why are you doing this to yourself?

Leila: I’m auditioning for a role in this new production that’s going to start after the Christmas break...and the character description says that she’s sort of chubby...so I’m just adding on a few extra pounds to fulfill the role

Ron: Don’t people do that AFTER they get the role?

Leila: I know...but now they’ll know that I’m already perfect for the role

Ron: Uh, not to sound like a horrible pessimist or anything...but...all you’re going to get out of this is a few extra pounds and probably a bypass at the age of 40...if I were you, I’d stop eating trifles for breakfast and stick to parfaits. Movie roles come often...auditions are frequent...but eating like this and then getting sick...I personally think it’s not worth it

Leila: But I really want the role

Ron: Then nail the audition...without pretending to be a chubby little girl. I know you’ll do fine...so throw away those trifles and let’s head to the gym

Leila: But I just ate

Ron: Exactly

~ end of flashback~

Ron: Come on...it would be based on a true story and you know how books based on a true story usually become great hits

Leila: But not best sellers that lasts for decades

Ron: Seriously...I really don’t know what to write about anymore...

Leila: Maybe cause you haven’t been in love lately...

Ron: Maybe...

Leila: I remember you used to tell me that sometimes you need to feel it to write it...or you need to see it to understand it in order for you to write it

Ron: You’re probably right... it’s been a long time since I’ve given myself away to love...too long actually

Leila: Well...as your manager I hope that you’ll find some inspiration soon or else we’ll both be homeless when we get back

Ron chuckled: Oh please...I’ve made enough royalties on my previous books to last me at least another
year...and you...you should watch your spending habits

Leila: My spending habits? MY spending habits...look at all the random stuff you have in your flat...who needs a mechanical bull?

Ron: It’s a good work out

Leila: how about that tanning bed

Ron: It’s not like you haven’t come over to use it

Leila: The point is...you need to start writing because the publishers are on my tail

Ron: Then find me a date

Leila: What?

Ron: Find me a date. Find me inspiration

Leila: Alright. I’ll be your date...I’ll be all yours this week...

Ron looked at her: You?

Leila nodded: Just pretend this is your story...and we’ll start from the beginning

Well...please leave a comment here, or in the cbox. Vote in my two polls...and remember the more comments the merrier!!!

Oh, and you can wish me good luck on my tests and exams and stuff like that if you want.

Updates on Updates!!!

Howdy folks,

I guess it's been a while since I last updated anything really. I guess I've been busy lately with one midterm per week and about 2 or more assignments per week. On top of all that I'm currently having a mid-university life crisis trying to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life. So, that's the update on me...but what I wanted to inform everyone about is...

  1. When I'll be updating my fanfics
  2. Current TVB series and my thoughts
  3. Harry Potter
  4. A Possibility of a Christmas Special (fanfic)

So...first my fanfics. I will be updating A Series of Unexpected Events this Thursday. You'll probably be asking why not update A Truthful Lie first, and my response to that is...I'm not exactly sure what I want to write...and how I want to carry on with that fanfic. It's funny how when I started that fanfic I had the perfect ending in mind...but as I started to write it...I realized there's so much more that I could write about...so many more twists and turns and of course so many more memorable and cute moments that my original ending would make everyone hate my guts (that's a huge run-on sentence).  Next week I'll try to update Take 2 and then A Truthful Lie...and ya.
For current TVB series, I finished watching Can't Buy Me Love and Every Move You Make and I'm currently watching Gun Metal Grey. You'll probably be wondering why I'm not watching No Regrets and my reason is simple...what's there to watch? Do I want to see Sheren portray yet another strong female character amazingly? No. Do I want to see Wayne in yet another role where he's most likely emotionally tormented and screaming is his lines and acting quite well? No. So, there's nothing there that I would like to see. Unless someone truly recommends this series to me, I don't think I'll be watching it. But for what I have watched and what I'm watching I got to say that I was pleasently entertained by the nonsensical humor in CBML, especially when you're stressed out and slightly feeling 'under the weather' it felt like a good dose of comedy. EMYM wasn't great...but finally I found Bosco's character to not be useless...and I can see him in a new light, plus the pen twirling was cool. And for GMG...it's no criminal minds, or castle or anything of the like...but it's watchable and the cases aren't so bad (and I'm not saying criminal minds or castle is excellent).

Next is Harry Potter. OMG. Did you see it yet? Are you a HP fan? I'll be putting a poll up for that...and I'll most likely post a review. lol

Finally...A Christmas Special this year? Yes or No? Answer through the poll.

The Stalker: Chapter 10

I haven't posted anything in a long time...because I've been busy and a bit 'depressed' about how school's going for me. Anyways, I feel a lot better knowing that you're reading my fanfics and you support me, which is fantastic. So, Thank you...sooo much.

Now for the update:

Ch 10

Assistant: Sir, we’ve confirmed what Ms. Yeung told your son earlier and indeed there is a new employee at Eclipse Enterprise. We ran a background check on him and he seems to be clean...grown up in a decent family, part of the lower class. Father worked as and still works as a cab driver, and the mother is just a homemaker at the moment. He has a girlfriend by the name of Nancy Wu, a social worker who apparently helped out his family during a huge fire outbreak that cost them almost everything. Ron Ng then got a full scholarship to study business administration in the states, and after a few years also received his MBA.

As his assistant told him about the background of this new individual who might act as an obstacle for him, he remained calm and only spoke briefly.

Man: Is that all?

Assistant: Yes sir...that’s everything we found from our preliminary search on his background

Man: what I want to know is every little detail about this person...from the colour he likes to the type of women that can arouse him

Assistant: Yes sir...should I tell the others to follow him?

Man: For now we’ll take it slow...however, there’s no harm in being precautious...tell me, does it seem as though he has any intentions of courting Ms. Chung?

Assistant: Not that we know of sir, like I reported earlier...

The man raised his voice: I heard you the first time, he has a girlfriend...but he, like many other men are never satisfied with what they already have...whether it is in wealth or in lovers...

Assistant: Yes sir, I’ll remember that

Man: Good...you can go now...I’d like some peace and quiet

With that the assistant left the gloomy office and left the man in peace. For someone of his age, he was much weaker and much more powerful than he should be. To him, everyone was just a pawn in his life size chess game. He could use and manipulate anyone to his will, and this was exactly what made him become so powerful. The lack of emotions that seems to encompass him is his only strength and most deadly weakness.

At the age of 40 he was a widower for his own wife had committed suicide because of his lack of passion and emotions towards her, leaving him with two sons. His oldest son, now all grown up serves him no use except for the fact that one day that very son will help carry his casket into burial. On the other hand, his youngest son, his pride and joy easily became his most favourite chess piece. The boy was merely two years old when his mother passed away, making him rely heavily on his father unlike his older brother who saw the suicide as a result of his father’s negligence towards his mother.

Ironically, he saw parts of himself when thinking about his oldest son...a boy who resents his father and who mourns for the loss of his mother. However, his oldest son lacks the ability to withdraw himself from emotional situations, making him such an easy target. His youngest son on the other hand who he had shaped into the man he is today, is in much more control of his emotions and he can manipulate others’ emotions to his advantage... His older son used to tell him that one day he will be defeated by his own greed...

Man: But I will never be defeated by my greed...no...I will only ever be defeated by the hands of time that will age me and further weaken me...leaving everything I have behind to my loyal son... (He laughed)

~ Eclipse Enterprise~

Ron: Good morning Natalie

Natalie: Good morning Mr. Ng

Ron: How does my schedule look today? Am I supposed to be meeting with any clients or anything?

Natalie: Actually, today at lunch you’ll be meeting with Ms. Chung as well as Mr. Au-Yeung

Ron: Ok, thank you. Will you be joining us?

Natalie: I don’t think so Mr. Ng

Ron: Oh, well, if that’s the case then I guess I should just go over the previous files that I haven’t finished reading yet until then

Natalie: If you need anything, just give me a call

Ron: Thank you

~ Lunch~

Ron had met up with both Bobby and Linda in front of the building as the three of them headed off to lunch.

Ron: I wasn’t exactly informed of what I should bring to our meeting

Bobby: This, isn’t a meeting

Ron: Oh...

Linda: It’s always a tradition for uncle Bobby to take a new employee who’s in a managerial position to lunch on his or her first day of work

Bobby: I do apologize for my absence yesterday, I actually had to attend a conference, hopefully my niece took good care of you (He looked at Linda)

His look made her face turn pink, which Ron easily noticed...and realized that Linda’s amazing uncle Bobby had something up his sleeve.

After arriving at the restaurant and being seated...something Ron had expected started to happen

Bobby: So, Ron...how was your first day of work

Ron: I think it went well...I was just trying to understand the company better

Bobby: Natalie told me you went on a little walk to look around

Ron: Ya...I wanted to see how our clients are doing, taking mental pictures really...I hope that’s ok

Bobby: Of course...do you have a girlfriend?

Linda nudged her uncle

Ron: I’m sorry, did you just ask if I have a girlfriend

Bobby smiled and nodded

Ron: I do actually...have a girlfriend

Bobby: Oh...that’s a bit disappointing, isn’t it (He looked at Linda)

Linda: I think our female employees will be pretty disappointed to hear the news

Ron chuckled: Out of curiosity, why did you ask that?

Bobby chuckled: Out of old habit really...I’m a curious man myself and I like to get to know the employees of our company better. So, Ron...from your portfolio I heard that you studied in the States and earned your MBA while staying on a full scholarship...that’s quite impressive

Ron: I guess you can say that when some has that drive, that flame of passion – true motivation...anything is really possible. For me, striving for that goal was everything...I promised my parents that I would come back successful and won’t disappoint them and so I had to...to be honest, I didn’t have any other choice

Bobby: Not a lot of young men these days have such a drive...it’s usually about the money

Ron: Money can’t buy everything...and it definitely can’t buy happiness (he looked over at Linda unconsciously)

Bobby: And...it can’t buy love either...however, it can buy my favourite dishes at this restaurant...and here they come

After lunch the three of them headed back to the office where Bobby wanted to have a word with Ron in private, making Linda a bit worried.

~Ron’s Office~

Bobby: So how do you like your office?

Ron: It’s nice

Bobby: I see you haven’t tried personalizing it yet

Ron: It’s only my second day...I’m not sure what I’d like to put in it yet

Bobby: Not even a picture of your girlfriend?

Ron chuckled: She’s been asking me which picture I’d like to use

Bobby: I see...

Ron: I hope you don’t mind me saying this but...you don’t seem to believe me

Bobby: I don’t know if I should. You’re a new employee here, fresh from the States...usually guys like you should be ambitious...too ambitious...and so you’d be like every other male employee at our company; wanting to win the heart of my niece...but you...what’s your story?

Ron: What do you mean?

Bobby: You’re a clever boy...you know exactly what I mean. But, to be even more explicit...why are you working here?

Ron: I need a job...and your company had an opening...

Bobby: No...it doesn’t make sense...a smart guy like you, you should’ve done the research...realized my brother had recently passed away...leaving everything to my niece which makes her vulnerable...making this company itself very vulnerable...working here wouldn’t give you the job stability...

Ron: I’m just looking for a practical experience...I’ve sent out my resumes to a lot of other companies...and I had a lot of interviews but I lacked the experience...

Bobby: Ok...but the other thing I don’t quite understand is that my niece seems to be fond of you...which is strange...unless the two of you have known each other for a while now...

Ron: Ms. Chung is a great person but I’ve only met her recently...and I guess she’s fond of me because I give off a much more genuine vibe than most other people...

Bobby: It’s true...you do...it’s just a bit disappointing that you have a girlfriend...cause I really think my niece could use someone like you to help her get through this tough time...

Ron: She already has you...

Bobby smiled: I can give her guidance but...she needs someone who will always be there for her...

Ron: I’m sure she has lots of friends who will be there for her when she needs them most

Bobby: That’s actually not the case...but...I feel like I’ve said too much and I think I should let you get back to work...even though I suspect my niece will want to talk to you after I leave...so...enjoy the rest of your day

Bobby left Ron sitting in his office quite confused as to why he was being questioned but nonetheless he knew that Bobby only asked so much because he cared about Linda. Moments later Natalie came in and told Ron that Ms. Chung wanted to see him in her office...which was exactly what Bobby had predicted.

~Linda’s office~

Linda: What did my uncle ask?

Ron: He asked me why I’m working here

Linda: Why did he ask that?

Ron: A part of him thinks I’m like every other male employee who essentially wants to get together with you and...have more than just a little fun

Linda blushed: What did you say?

Ron: I told him I’m not here for that but rather for a working experience...but that’s not the complete truth

Linda: What?

Ron smiled: Don’t worry...I’m not here to get into your pants or any of that...what I didn’t tell your uncle was that I’m here to help you and help you get through whatever it is...though your uncle preferred that I’d be interested in you more...

Linda: Oh, well...he’s always like that, trying to be the match maker

Ron: He just really cares about you...

Linda: I know...

Ron: By the way, are you doing anything tonight?

Linda: Are you asking me out?

Ron: Not exactly...I just wanted to ask you a few personal questions that might require a bit of your time and using company money to fund my questioning doesn’t seem right to me. How about at the Empire Hotel’s restaurant at 7?

Linda: Ok, I’ll see you then
==============================
