What a year 2008 was...I’m in total shock that it’s over...
For me 2008 was a year of change, moving forward from high school where I could sleep in class but barely did, to university where I shouldn’t sleep in class but did. University has been tougher than I had originally expected...and thus, it took away my time for writing fanfics and updating my blog.
In the year 2008 I watched 10 out of the 26 TVB series that was released...and I’m still watching Gem of Life...a series that is a bit older for me to watch...but still very watchable nonetheless. After being a TVB fan for so long, I thought I should explore what other types of dramas had to offer. So, 2008 became my year of exploration, watching both Japanese and Korean dramas. And I was amazed...by the difference in the storyline they had compared to TVB’s.
But TVB did end up offering quite a number of high quality dramas this year...I was shockingly pleased with quite a few of these dramas. Well, most of them didn’t satisfy me in every way possible, but the drama did its job as a whole...to entertain. I think the drama that I actually liked the most out of all the dramas I watched this year...was in fact not a TVB drama/series. It’s sad to say that the one drama I enjoyed most...was in fact a Korean drama entitled World Within or something along those lines.
TVB dramas may be something I watched since probably when I was born...but over the years the realization that a lot of what it has to offer is more idealistic or extremely unrealistic just loses my interest. TVB has produced several dramas that deal with the day to day lives of families...the inner struggle and all...but fails to do something...something that...the Korean drama I found myself enjoying actually displayed.
Anyways, back to TVB...I did enjoy quite a few of the series they had produced this year like Catch Me Now, My Class or Yours, The Four, and A Journey Called Life. Yes, those series only had about 20 or so episodes...and I found myself not losing interest. You may say that these four series are not memorable, and I would not argue that point with you for the fact that I agree that they are not memorable..
but sometimes I watch certain series for the sake of entertainment...and these four series served its purpose. And plus I’ve learned quite a few interesting things from two of the four above mentioned series...
Of course there were disappointments this year as well...like all of the sequels. Yes, some of the sequels had higher ratings than their prequels or supposed prequels (cough, moonlight, cough). But the saddening part is those series tried too hard...
Let’s take an example from Moonlight Resonance...it achieved a remarkable high rating, it took home several awards yet I didn’t find myself loving it at all. In fact, the only characters I enjoyed watching from Moonlight were Ha Yu’s, Moses’, Susanna’s, Tavia’s and Michelle’s. Those five people stole the show for me. Their acting was up to par...or met my expectations, and their characters were very likable in a more realistic manner...compared to characters like Raymond’s, Linda’s and Bosco’s, which were horrific. I must apologize to fans of Raymond before continuing this blog...for I hated his role with a passion. His role resembled Moses’ role from Heart of Greed...but Raymond’s role was ridiculous. How could there possibly be such a nice guy like that...actually it is NOT possible. Raymond’s portrayal of the character made him look stupid, naive and in a way made it seem like he was too good to be true. Moses’ character in Heart of Greed on the other hand, was a nice guy as well...but more realistic...since he had fantasized about being with Linda’s character...which makes it seem very logical. It’s a shame that TVB tried so hard to make Raymond’s character likable, that it backfired and made me hate his character SO VERY MUCH!
Ah...I’ll continue this rant later in the year when I actually decide to write reviews on the TVB series I’ve watched in 2008...or at least a few of them.
Moving on to 2009, what will I do?
First off, I’ll finish my Christmas Special, and then I’ll finish Tired of Being Sorry...which was supposed to be finished eons ago. That would leave me with A Truthful Lie and the fanfic that is on and off of hiatus, Take 2. Hopefully, I won’t randomly decide to start another fanfic before I finish A Truthful Lie...which I hope will become a tear jerker...lol
As for TVB series...my plan is to watch a couple of the sequels, any series with Tavia or Ron or Bobby or Jessica in them, the grand production with Gallen, and the series with Nick Cheung.
Lately, I’ve been sick of seeing Raymond and Bosco on my computer screen/TV...and the good news is, apparently Raymond only has one series next year...which I might consider watching, if it’s a modern one. As for Bosco...TVB should just stop giving him roles that make him look like a useless human being in the series. I know my words are a bit harsh, but hey, it’s not like I’m criticizing his acting or anything. I just find his recent roles useless...but on a good note...I do enjoy listening to one of his songs, which I don’t remember the title of. Oh well.
Also...I will...continue to watch The Gem of Life until the very end...I will be patient with it and let it grow on me because I do find it a bit interesting lol
Well...
I wish everyone a year filled with joy, laughter, good health and good luck!
