A Truthful Lie: Ch 27

Ch 27

A month or so had pass, Leila had written her BAR and was still questioning whether or not she should take the opportunity that Ron had given her, to study and work abroad. The idea of being closer to her son was something that she very much liked, but the thought of not being with Ron was one that was capable of wiping that smile off her face.

Leila wanted to tell him that she was in love with him, and that he wasn’t in love with Tavia...and what he felt for Tavia wasn’t love but was almost like an obsession, a distorted infatuation that was mistaken for love. But she was afraid that if she told him, she’d lose him forever.

Over a month’s time, Ron and Tavia had gone on a few more dates, Ron had given Tavia a few goodbye kisses on the forehead, a few pecks on the cheek, and they locked lips once. They were indeed trying to take it slow, Ron didn’t want to rush their relationship, but rather let it progress at its natural pace.

As Ron drove Tavia home, they were stopped at a red light where they saw a young couple walking down the street, hand in hand, simply in a euphoric state powered by love.

Ron: I remember how I used to love walking you back

Tavia: Ya...I remember that time when you gave me a piggy back ride cause I sprained my ankle

Ron: And your place was up like two hills

Tavia: You could’ve driven

Ron: But I wanted to spend more time with you

Tavia smiled: I know

The light turned green and he continued the drive to her place. Once they got there, Ron parked the car and as Tavia was getting ready to leave...

Ron: Wait

Tavia: What is it?

Ron took a hold of her hand, raised it to his lips and kissed it

Ron: I don’t want to see you leave so soon

Tavia smiled: Then I’ll stay here just a little bit longer

Ron smiled: That would be perfect

After a couple more minutes, Ron had finally let go of her hand, got out of the car, opened the door for Tavia and stood facing her, in front of her place.

Slowly he wrapped his arms around her body and brought her closer towards him as he embraced her under the moonlit sky.

Ron: Do you think that starting over is a silly idea?

Tavia: Why do you say that...?

Ron: Because we’ve been through so much back then...

Tavia: But it wasn’t all good...and we both know that as a fact

Ron: I know...but saying that it didn’t happen is a silly idea. I hurt you, that’s a fact...

Tavia: And I hated you because of that...but I only hated and resented you so much, because that was how much I loved you

Ron: Do you still?

Tavia: I...don’t know...

Ron smiled: That’s ok...I guess we need some more time...

Tavia: Ya...but one thing I do know is that ever since you came back into my life, I’ve had the chance to release all that resentment and all of that bitterness I had built up over the year. I’ve created this barrier around myself to make sure that I won’t ever get hurt again. And now, thanks to you...that barrier, that wall is slowly crumbling down...

Ron: I think I had the responsibility of doing that, since I caused it all...and I’m glad that you’re back in my life. No more, what ifs...but rather...what’s going to happen next...

Tavia gave him a quick peck on the cheek: Goodnight Ron

Ron: Goodnight

He watched her walk inside the building, and entered the elevator. He heaved a sigh, and smiled knowing that things between are indeed getting better. But what he didn’t know was what will happen next. The question of whether or not they were really meant to be continued to linger in his mind as he got back into his car. And whenever he was in such a state of confusion, there was only person to go to...the person who knew soul.

Without truly thinking about it, he drove into the night and ended up in front of Myolie’s place. He knew that she would be home, but wasn’t sure whether or not she’d still be awake. Recklessly, he got out of his car, had a mischievous look on his face as he started to pick a few rocks from around the parking area. After finalizing which window was hers he started to throw the rocks at it, until the light came on.

Myolie opened the curtains and stared down at a smiling Ron who was still throwing rocks at her window. Finally she opened her window...

Myolie: do you have any idea what time it is?

Ron: It’s time for me to come see my best friend?

Myolie shook her head, closed the window and trudged down to see him, who was now standing in the main lobby

Myolie: What if that wasn’t my window?

Ron: I’d defend myself in court? Or pay the fine?

Myolie: Really? That’s your answer? What were you thinking?

Ron: I was thinking that I wanted to talk to someone, next thing I knew I drove to your place. Then I thought about what I used to do as a kid, throwing rocks at your window, and how you’d run all the way down to greet me...so ya...

Myolie: And how old are you now?

Ron smiled: As old as you are...so...are we going to continue this conversation in the lobby, while you’re still wearing your lovely pink polka dotted PJs or...are you going to invite me up to your place?

Myolie had forgotten that she was still in her PJs, and without any make-up on. She glared at Ron, and the two of them took the elevator up to her place.

Myolie: You could’ve called...and I thought you had a date tonight

Ron: I did

Myolie: please don’t tell me you’re here to tell me about your date

Ron: Well...I might be...but...I just...really wanted to see you...

Myolie yawned: Couldn’t you wait till morning?

Ron shook his head: I just had to come now...come here

And with that he wrapped his arms around her and embraced her. There was this level of comfort between them that just made things feel so right when they were together...and Ron just knew that this was what he wanted at the moment.

Myolie: How about, we talk in the morning...I’m really tired right now

Ron: Ok...do you want me to carry you into bed

Myolie looked at him: That’s not such a bad idea

Ron smiled and carried her into her bedroom

Myolie: Your toothbrush is still in the bathroom...and I think I still have your old stuff in the guest room since you never seem to come and get them

Ron: That’s probably because I know that I’ll be spending a few nights here anyways

Myolie: Whatever, goodnight Ron...remember to turn off all the lights

Ron: Goodnight

He gave her a slight peck on the forehead, pulled the blanket over her, turned off the lights and walked out, closing the door behind him.

================
This is getting exciting as it is nearing the end...I believe I intend there to be about 30 or so chapters. I already hinted to an open ending...and so...I might keep my word with regards to that. Also, I wanted to point out that Take 2 is also nearing the end...thus, that leaves all of us with two fanfics, The Stalker and A Series of Unexpected Events. So...this year, I plan on starting a brand new, approximately 15-20 chapter fanfic in September...like most of my fanfic, the male lead will be Ron...and as for the female lead...I'm contemplating between Myolie and Leila at the moment...so...please leave a comment telling me who'd you prefer

Also, please comment on this chapter...and it will probably be updated in a few weeks' time...I can't guarantee every two weeks...nonetheless...I hope you enjoyed it, and...remember, COMMENT, COMMENT AND COMMENT!!!

Take 2: Ch 22

Ch 22

Yes, I do have the worse hiatuses...but...it’s really because I’m an indecisive person who never seems to be able to finish things. And then when the end slowly approaches, I find myself avoiding it...

But...here it is!
==================

Sitting there waiting for an immediate reply seemed to be a foolish idea, but maybe Ron was a fool. He sat there hoping that she would reply as soon as possible, maybe in a long email like he had written her. He hoped for a day when she would accept again, as a friend but deep down he knew that he still wanted to be more than just her friend. At the same time, he also knew that if he kept on pushing her to accept him, he’ll just be pushing her further and further away. But what was a man like him to do, in a situation like this. Moving on...was just too difficult.

But the time he spent waiting was futile, for she didn’t reply at all. So all hopes were once again gone, and he only wished that they would be renewed the following day. But at least, he got some studying done.

The following day, he woke up to the sound of his alarm and quickly ran to his laptop to check whether or not she had replied. Once again, there was no such luck of a reply.

He knew it would take her a while, and he realized maybe this was a good opportunity to collect himself. Maybe it was a good opportunity for him to practice, practice what he would say to her or make plans for what they were going to do. Yes, this was an opportunity.

~ University grounds~

The weather was pretty nice out, just a few clouds floating in a lovely blue sky with the sun out. Fresh air, and sunlight...that was probably what we wanted more than the stench of the glue used for the binding of old books found in the library. He had his earbuds in his ears listening away to his favourite band under the sunlight, with his eyes barely open until he found himself covered by this shadow. He looked up to see her standing meters in front of him, and immediately sat up and pulled out his earbuds.

Ron: You’re covering my sunlight

Linda: I’m trying to prevent you from getting skin answer, the least you should do is thank me

Ron smiled: Thank you

Linda: Now that’s more like it (She walked over and sat down next to him)

Ron: Shouldn’t you be in the library?

Linda: Shouldn’t you be studying?

Ron: I wanted some peace and quiet along with fresh air and sunlight

Linda: Me too

Ron: Oh

Linda: So...any progress

Ron: I haven’t exactly started studying...

Linda: No...I meant between you and that girl or did you talk to Leila?

Ron: I emailed her last night...

Linda: That girl?

Ron: No, Leila

Linda: Oh...well, good luck getting a reply

Ron chuckled: You know I can’t talk to her over the phone...it probably would waste her minutes and mine considering it’ll be a complete silence

Linda: I guess that’s true...well (She placed her hand on his shoulder) at least you made some progress

Ron nodded: I guess...

Linda: So, what did your email say?

Ron looked at her: I never took you for the nosy type

Linda: Well, if you don’t want to tell me...I guess it’s really none of my business (She slowly got up)

Ron: Wait (He took a hold of her hand as she was about to get up)

This was probably the first time he initiated any physical contact...it was probably the most bizarre thing but for some reason the moment he found his hand touching hers there seemed to have been this rush of euphoria.

Linda: You want me to stay?

Ron nodded, and let go of her hand...

Linda: So then...tell me

Ron: Umm...I just told her I wanted to be friends again, and how I was sorry I kind of blew up in front of her and how I’m kind of scared being around her

Linda laughed: Well, she’s not going to eat you

Ron: Oh, thanks I didn’t know that

Linda: Is that all?

Ron: And I asked if she’d like to go for another walk...

Linda: I see...Ron, tell me...did you always wanted a dog when you were younger?

Ron: What?

Linda: A dog...you know, four-legged furry or hairy creature that barks and...

Ron: I know what a dog is...but I don’t understand why you’re asking

Linda: You always like asking her for a walk...so...you know...I just put 2 and 2 together...

Ron chuckled: What an interesting observation...but...I do have a dog

Linda: Well, I guess I was on the right track

Ron: Or maybe, you’re completely off and it’s just a mere coincidence...and besides, I like walks cause usually they’re rather quiet so we could talk. But, hopefully she agrees to it.

Linda: I hope it’ll work out for the two of you

Ron: Me too...it’ll be nice having her back, so we three could hang out some time

Linda: So you’re saying you’re tired of seeing only me all the time

Ron: Oh no, I don’t think I can ever get tired of seeing you...you really make my day

Linda: That’s really sweet (She gave him a hug)

Ron: Thanks for the hug

Linda smiled: You know, they’re not free

Ron looked at her: What?

Linda: You owe me...some study time

A Truthful Lie: Ch 26

Both Linda and Steven arrived at the office, punctual as expected. As soon as they arrived Leila had led the way into the conference room, where Ron was already present.

Ron: Good afternoon, Mr. Ma, Ms. Chung

The two of them smiled and greeted him back.

Steven: The last time our companies cooperated on a project I wasn’t in town and so my fiancĂ©e had to fill in both as the representative as well as our legal advisor

Ron: I believe Ms. Chung did very well in that case

Steven: I’m sure she did

Linda: Anyways, this time since Steven is back, I thought it was better if we came together, not only to discuss the future plans for our ongoing collaboration, but also to invite you to our wedding

Ron: Congratulations

Steven: Thank you, we both really hope you could make it...Linda said that you were quite helpful and that the two of you got along quite well, surely she would categorize you as a friend

Ron smiled: It’s my pleasure

Steven: We’ve also sent out invitations to your father as well as your elder brother

Ron: That’s great

Linda: I didn’t actually want it to be a big thing, but Steven and his father said that marriage is a special thing and so the grander the better

Ron chuckled: I think both Mr. Ma’s want to tell the world that a beautiful young lady will be joining their family

Linda blushed: You still manage to compliment me even in the presence of my future husband, I’m quite impressed

Ron: I believe Steven’s a reasonable man, and what I said was merely the truth, so he wouldn’t mind, right Steven?

Steven: Of course not, my father and I do want to show the world that the ever so talented lawyer Linda Chung will become my wife

As they continued their talk about the marriage and then made their way into the actual business Steven received a call and went out to take it, leaving Linda, Ron and Leila in the room.

Ron: I’m amazed you’re settling down

Linda: Well, a woman’s youth only lasts for so long...and since I’ve already found the man who loves me whole-heartedly, settling down was definitely in the near future

Ron: Maybe...but really...you don’t miss...what we had?

Linda cleared her throat indicating that Leila was still in the room

Ron smiled: Don’t mind her, she knows everything anyways

Linda: In that case...what we had was interesting...not a lot of men have the guts to go after me since my fiancé is Steven Ma...but you did...

Ron: Probably because I’m always up for a challenge

Linda smiled: You’re a great guy Ron...hopefully you’ll find someone to settle down with too

Eventually, their conversation went back to business and Steven also came back to join in on the discussion about renewing their current contract and their future plans. Once the meeting was over, the pair left the conference room and headed out leaving Ron and Leila sitting there.

Ron: Leila...did you...actually get married?

Leila: No...we kept things quiet and simple...

Ron: Do you want to get married? Do all women want to get married?

Leila: I think most women would like to get married, or at least try on a wedding dress, maybe take some pictures, walk down the aisle...but ultimately what most women really want is to find the man that will love them for who they are, regardless of how much burden they have, or how they look...

Ron: Am I...marriage material?

Leila: What?

Ron: Would you...marry someone like me?

Leila: If I love you...I would

Ron: Even if I’m a jerk half of the time

Leila: You mean, most of the time

Ron smiled: Sure...

Leila: If I love you, I would

Ron: And how do you know, if you’ve fallen in love with someone?

Leila didn’t understand his question...it felt like Ron was having somesort of mid-life crisis at the age of 30, or he’s a young teenager trying to figure out what love is. Didn’t he already know what it is? Isn’t he in love with Tavia?

Leila: I’m not sure I can explain it to you...but shouldn’t you already know?

Ron: I thought I did...but, I could be wrong...

Leila: So, why are you asking me?

Ron: I don’t know...I’m not sure who I should ask...and I don’t even know why I tell you so much...it’s the weirdest thing

Leila: I’m equally confused, but...I’m also glad that you trust me enough to tell me these things

Ron: You’re a great intern, probably you’re going to be a great lawyer...and you’re a great friend as well as a wonderful mother...whoever’s going to get to see you every morning when he wakes up and every night when he falls asleep, will probably be one of the luckiest man alive

At that moment the only thought that lingered in Leila’s mind was that she hoped that man is the same person who’s talking to her right at that moment. That was the moment that she couldn’t lie to herself anymore about her feelings for him. She was indeed very much in love with this man that’s in front of her, the man she said she would never fall in love with.

Ron: I’ve actually got a little surprise for you...

Leila: A surprise?

Ron: I know that you’ll be writing the BAR exam in a few week’s time to officially get your license as a lawyer and so I’ve recommended you to a firm in the States...

Leila: In the States?

Ron: It’ll give you the opportunity to learn more and be closer to your son. You don’t have to worry about the expenses because I’ll handle that...

Leila: Ron...

Ron: Even though I’ll be losing the best help I’ve ever had, I think it’ll be a good opportunity for you

Leila: You really want me to go?

Ron nodded: It’ll be great for you

Leila: And what if I don’t want to go?

Ron: Why?

She wanted to tell him it was because she was in love with him and wanted to remain by his side, but she simply couldn’t do it. She didn’t want to make things awkward between them because spending time with him meant far too much to her. She wanted him to tell her that he felt the same way, but it was apparent that he didn’t even know how he felt about someone who he says he’s in love with.

Leila: It was just...a hypothetical question

Ron: Oh...well...if you don’t want to go, I’ll be sticking around her for another year or so, so...you could always stick around to help me...

She wanted to immediately yell out ‘yes, I’d like that’ but once again was held back not only by her lack of courage, but also by fear of making things awkward between them

Leila: Well...I’ll think about it

Ron: OK...

He got up and embraced her again...and he continued to ponder why it felt just right holding her in his arms. He loved it, when he could hear her heart race a little at his touch...but he never questioned why that was the case.

Ignorance, is a bliss.

=====================

I hope you enjoyed this short and quick update for this fanfic. I'll probably be updating it more frequently if i see that people are indeed still reading it lol. And I guess a good indication would be seeing comments, because in all honesty, your comments really do act as a motivation for me to keep on going.

My next update for this blog is either going to be Take 2, or a another rant sort of thing like my other blog post, titled Why TVB, WHY?

So, we'll just have to wait and see...which one I end up writing first.

Please, leave me a comment, or multiple comments, telling me what you think about this chapter, or how you think this fanfic will end...stuff like that...or really, just how your day's been lol

Anyways,
