Someone Like You: Chapter 3: Surprises

Ch 3

Ron followed Leila out of the office and towards the elevator. Moments later Krystal came out of her office and started talking to Nancy.

Krystal: I see my brother has taken a liking towards you

Nancy: I guess so...but he still doesn’t remember who I am

Krystal: Pretty ironic for a guy who has an eidetic memory

Nancy: Probably because I look nothing like how I used to look back then

Krystal: So, any harsh feelings?

Nancy shook her head: Nah...we were all young, and he seems different now...

Krystal: Are you going to tell him?

Nancy: Tell him what?

Krystal: How you two know each other?

Nancy: Nope...

Krystal: And if he figures it out...

Nancy: Then isn’t it a good thing?

Krystal smiled: You’re a nice girl, too bad my little brother didn’t notice that back then

Nancy: Maybe because I wasn’t so nice...

Krystal laughed: Well...whatever the reason, I’m glad you’re working here...because without you Florence and I wouldn’t know what to do

Nancy: Speaking of Florence, is she still with that client?

Krystal nodded: The man doesn’t seem to understand that she’s not into him, but at the same time he keeps on coming back in for a consultation, so technically it’s a win-win situation

Florence walked out of her office with her client

Florence: I’m sorry Mr. Lee...but the company policy is that we’re not allowed to date our clients, so I will try my best to find you someone who is more suitable

Mr. Lee: Please, just call me Johnson, we’ve known each other for quite some time now...and if that’s the case, I’ll be back again, maybe I could persuade you to work at a different company?

Florence smiled: I’m sorry; I can’t leave my best friend like that

Johnson: Well, if you change your mind, you know my number

Florence: Of course

Johnson: I’ll see you again sometime then

Florence: Bye

After Johnson had left, Florence walked over to where Krystal and Nancy were

Florence: Go ahead, let it out

The three of them broke out in laughter

Nancy: I think one day he’s going to come in here and propose to you

Florence: Then I’ll be ‘honest’ with him

Nancy: ‘Honest’ in what way?

Florence: I don’t know...I’ll just tell him I’m in a relationship with one of you (she laughed)

Krystal: Oh please...you’re not my type...and you’re definitely not Nancy’s type either

Florence: And what type is Nancy looking for? Someone like...your brother, perhaps? I notice how he looks at you...it’s a look of infatuation...

Nancy: And you can tell because that’s how your Johnson looks at you?

The three of them continued to laugh.

~ Tea Shop~

Ron: So...what would you like to know about me?

Leila: Just the basics...things a girlfriend would need to know about her boyfriend

Ron: Ok...like what?

Leila: Birthday

Ron: September 2nd

Leila: Ok...favourite colour

Ron: Hold up...I know you sent me this entire document with your relevant information and all...and I can easily read and memorize it...but...I propose that we get to know each other in a more human way

Leila: Right...because obviously apes can type 20 page documents

Ron: I mean...a more social way...like a normal couple would...

Leila: But we’re not a normal couple

Ron: Oh, believe me...I know that and I’m glad that this is all an act...but...if you want to make it believable, I suggest we do it like how a couple should

Leila: Fine...so, what do you propose we do now?

Ron: Well...since you asked, there is a place I’d like to go...

Leila looked at him: And is it a place where a normal guy can take his normal girlfriend on a normal date

Ron nodded: I’m not sure what you’re trying to allude to...but this is a perfectly normal place where a normal couple might go to

Leila: Fine, then let’s go

Ron paid for the tea that they didn’t drink and the two of them left the shop and started walking.

Leila: Aren’t we going back to the company to get our cars?

Ron: Nah, it’s just about 4 blocks away from here...and the weather is relatively good

Leila: First of all, you want me to walk 4 blocks? And second of all...it’s relatively good weather? Which means that it could rain...

Ron: Ya...so?

Leila: Do you think I can walk 4 blocks?

Ron looked at her: Even though you’re not exactly ‘fit’ but, I’m pretty sure you know how to walk and can walk...so...ya

Leila: And what if it rains?

Ron: It won’t...come on, before the weather decides to change

Leila: Fine, but next time...

Ron: Next time, what?

Leila: we should plan things out ahead of time

Ron: I see you’re not a fan of surprises

Leila: Let’s just say I like to have things under control

Someone Like You: Ch 2

Ch 2: Personal Understanding

After the Krystal had gone through all the rules and regulations once more, it was time for the employees to spend a bit of time together or at least with their partners.

Krystal: I know that this is an unusual set up, but I guarantee you that this is quite beneficial...so, please spend some time getting to know each other so that your act won’t look too perfect (she smiled)

Ron: What?

Krystal: Even real couples don’t always agree...or know everything about their other half...

Ron: So then why are you telling us to get to know each other, when obviously it’s not necessary?

Krystal: Ron, why are you always the only one who has so many questions and qualms about all of this...look at everyone else...

Ron: Fine

As everyone left the conference room, Leila asked Ron to stay back for a bit

Ron: So, what is it?

Leila: We need to talk

Ron looked at her: Usually when a girl tells me that, it’s been months into our relationship. Leila Tong, you’ve just broken a new record

Leila: That’s great...but, we do need to talk

Ron: Go ahead...are you going to tell me why a young heiress would work for a small matchmaking company like this one?

Leila: No

Ron: Well...if you don’t mind...I think it’s probably because you want to prove to your father that you’re equally as capable as or more capable than your brother. And you want to prove the fact that you can be successful without all of that money...you have quite the ego issue

Leila: I wanted to talk to you, not let you analyze me...but...it seems you’re actually smarter than you look

Ron: Oh, I get that a lot...since most people think that good looks results in a lack of intelligence...but really...

Leila: No...I just meant that you don’t look like the educated type and you act like a five year old

Ron: Ok then...so, what did you want to talk about?

Leila: Well...since you know who I am, I’m assuming you would also know about the rumours of the merger between the Tong Corp and Chan Enterprise...

Ron: Maybe...go on

Leila: you know how the policy for this company is that we are not allowed to have any relationships outside of work...

Ron: Uh huh

Leila: I’m supposed to get engaged to Power Chan...

Ron: Ok...but you obviously can’t now...or is it that you never wanted to, to begin with

Leila: Exactly

Ron: So...what does that have to do with us...?

Leila: I tried to break it off with Power, but he doesn’t seem to get it...so...I applied to work here knowing that the policy would actually help me with my personal matters. So, I need you to act accordingly and be there when I need you...

Ron: Ok

Leila: Ok? That’s all you have to say?

Ron: What else do you want me to say?

Leila: Nevermind...

Ron: So...I guess we should get to know each other then...if you want this to work

Leila: It’s not like I have much of a choice

Ron: Ok...hi, I’m Ron Ng...I have an eidetic memory, I can fly small planes and I love movies where all the main characters die at the end...and since that never happen, you can tell I’m not a fan of movies

Leila: Really? This is how we’re going to find out about each other?

Ron: What were you expecting? Some sort of magical kiss where I could somehow transfer all the knowledge about myself into you?

Leila: I thought you were prepared

Ron: Prepared?

She took out her phone and asked him for his email. Once he gave her his email, she sent him a single pdf file from her phone.

Leila: There

Ron: What?

Leila: Open it

Ron: It’s twenty pages long

Leila: It’s everything you need to know about me

Ron: Lucky for you...

Leila: Why is that?

Ron: Weren’t you paying any attention when I introduced myself to you...I said that I have an eidetic memory

Leila: Great!

Ron: Don’t tell me that you expect me to send you a pdf about me tonight...

Leila: Oh no, I don’t exactly have such high expectations for you since you didn’t even consider doing something like that to begin with

Ron shook his head: You know, you should definitely get married to that Power Chan guy

Leila: And why is that? Did you buy our company’s stocks?

Ron: No...I just don’t think there’s another man out there who would want to marry you

Leila: Excuse me?

Ron: Seems to me that you’ve had a great life, and you haven’t ever stepped outside that bubble of the good life before. You haven’t seen the world, and yet you try to judge the world through your narrow minded perspective

Leila: And you think you’re any better

Ron smiled: You just don’t get it...but that’s ok...I guess you’ll have to learn

Leila: Is this your life philosophy or something

Ron: Sure...anyways, let’s get to work

The two of them walked out of the conference room and realized that both Krystal and Florence were seeing new clients, while Jason and Fala had already left.

Ron walked over to Nancy’s desk at the front

Ron: Where did Jason and Fala go?

Nancy: They went for coffee...maybe you and Leila should go too

Ron: Maybe...what about you?

Nancy: Me? I’m supposed to stay here and work out all your paper work as well as set the appointment dates for you guys

Ron: So...how come my sister never introduced us?

Nancy smiled: Why would she?

Ron shrugged: She’s always been trying to introduce me to nice girls

Nancy: And you think I’m a nice girl?

Ron: I think you’re a wonderful person

Nancy: I’m flattered

Ron smiled: Even though you don’t exactly give off that vibe...but, from the things you do...I can tell

Leila cleared her throat

Ron whispered to Nancy: I think she’s jealous...

Ron turned around and smiled at Leila: Nancy said we should go for coffee

Leila: I don’t drink coffee

Ron: Tea?

Leila: Might as well

Ron turned back to Nancy: Would you like anything?

Nancy: I’m good, thanks

Ron: Oh well...I guess I’ll see you later, if not, then tomorrow

Nancy: Bye, and have fun

Ron: I’ll try
